About the Multimedia Studies Program

The Associate of Science degree and the Certificate of Achievement curricula are designed to provide education for media-related careers, professional advancement and transfer preparation. Courses provide a solid foundation in multimedia's unique processes, projects, and roles as well as hands-on technology use that emphasizes the development of skills.

A.S. in Multimedia Studies (MMST)

An Associate in Science degree is awarded for completion of all Core Program requirements and the chosen specialty: (Authoring, Visual Design, and Sound and Video Design); as well as completion of general education and graduation requirements. Core classes should be taken concurrently with specialty classes and general education classes. The average student completes all classes for the A.S. degree in four semesters (2 years) assuming a full-time student schedule of 12 or more units per semester. All students should consult a counselor.

Certificate Programs

A Certificate of Achievement is offered three Multimedia Specialties: Authoring, Visual Design, and Video Sound and Video Design. The Certificate of Achievement is awarded for completion of the Core Program plus the additional course requirements in each specialty. The average student completes all classes for the certificate in four semesters (2 years) assuming a full-time student schedule of 12 or more units per semester. All students should consult a counselor.


Authoring: Provides students with experience in integrating and synchronizing text, graphics, and audio and digital video to create interactive multimedia content for web based, CD-ROM and DVD-ROM delivery.

Visual Design Specialty: Provides students with experience of developing effective designs using 2D and 3D graphic computer applications for visualization of objects and environments for multimedia design.

Sound and Video Design Specialty: Provides a basic knowledge of sound and video as it applies to multimedia design with emphasis on the development of skills related to the production of sound and video for use in dynamic, interactive,and popular media.


Selected Topics

Students may take any class offered in the class schedule for credit / no credit or a grade without the purpose of attaining multimedia certification. However, the certificate program is designed to provide a firm foundation in multimedia's unique processes and projects and emphasizes the development of skills in technology. Completion of the program is highly recommended for those intending to work in this field.

Students may choose English 120 or 150 to complete the Associate (A.S) degree.
